Support the Picture
Perfect Health Campaign to Digitize Radiology at Holy Cross Hospital
 |
In
2006, the Foundation raised $170,000 to help buy a
new cardiac monitor system for the Intensive Care Unit of Holy
Cross Hospital. That equipment was purchased and installed in
fall 2006.
In 2007, the Foundation Board selected the Radiology
Department as the beneficiary of their fund-raising efforts.
The Radiology Department needs to be upgraded. The Foundation
titled their multi-year fund-raising project "Picture
Perfect Health." |
What
is the Picture Perfect Health Project?
An
integrated 2-year plan to upgrade Holy Cross Hospital’s
Radiology Department, the Picture Perfect Health Project
includes:
-
Upgrading
the hospital’s communications system
-
Digitizing
all imaging in Radiology
-
Purchasing
new digital mammography and fluoroscope equipment.
By
the end of 2009, this new system will be installed at a
cost of over $1,500,000. The Foundation’s goal is
to raise $360,000 to support this project.

Who
will benefit from the Picture Perfect Health Project?
-
Doctors use mammograms, x-rays of broken bones, MRIs,
scans of internal organs, and other radiology exams to
diagnose and to treat patients. In 2006, Holy Cross’s
Radiology Department produced over 32,000 radiology exams.
Clear, high quality, high-resolution images help doctors
provide quality treatment.
-
Digital
images help doctors and patients easily transport radiology
images, thus making it simple to share information with
and consult with other health care providers.
|
How
Will the Picture Perfect Health Project Help Patients?
All
radiology equipment including mammography and fluoroscopic
equipment—will be upgraded to produce digital images.
Digital
images will replace old celluloid films, thus:
-
Providing clear, high quality, high resolution images.
-
Giving patients and doctors immediate access to images
by eliminating film developing time.
-
Cutting
examination time for patients in half and reducing examination
wait time
-
Eliminating
cumbersome storage problems (current x-ray films require
huge storage rooms).
-
Allowing
easy transport and storage of images with information
technology. They can be sent via the
Internet
anywhere in the world and can be permanently stored on CDs
or other data storage devices.
